The science of learning studies how students acquire, process and retain knowledge, integrating insights from cognitive psychology, neuroscience and education.
It is crucial for today's and future educators because it provides evidence-based strategies for designing effective instruction, optimising learning experiences, and addressing diverse learning needs. Educators equipped with these skills can improve educational outcomes and adapt their teaching methods to a contemporary understanding of how the brain learns.
Cognitive science in education involves designing teaching strategies based on how the brain processes information, such as understanding cognitive load and retrieval practice. It focuses on aligning lesson sequences with contemporary research on cognitive architecture to optimise learning and enhance teaching effectiveness.
Educators are applying science of learning theories in their teaching. In this course, you will critically examine your beliefs about how children learn and the effectiveness of teaching practices in relation to cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience and contemporary education research on human cognitive architecture.
With our Science of Learning specialisation, you will develop analytical, critical and creative thinking skills to enhance your teaching effectiveness and improve student learning and engagement.
