Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
How does ECU rank compared to other Universities?

ECU has been rated the maximum of five stars for teaching quality by our graduates for 15 years in a row. We have also been ranked the top public university in Australia for teaching quality in the QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) survey for six years in a row.

What is FEE-HELP and how does it work?

FEE-HELP is a government loan scheme that can assist eligible full-fee paying students with the cost of a university course. Australian citizens and holders of a Permanent Humanitarian visa who are residing within Australia can access FEE-HELP. Using this program, you can borrow enough money from the Commonwealth Government to cover your course fees. Once your income reaches a certain level, you will pay the loan back via the tax system. For more information on FEE-HELP call us on 1300 707 760.

How does the online and accelerated mode work?

Our courses are delivered online, so you don’t need to attend classes on-campus. You will study one unit at a time over seven-week study periods. With six study periods in a year, you can accelerate your studies and graduate sooner, without having to juggle multiple subjects.

What is the study load? How many hours per week do I need to commit to postgraduate study?

We recommend dedicating 15-20 hours per week to your postgraduate study. Our online accelerated models means you will study one unit at a time over seven-week study periods.

Are ECU Online courses part time or full time?

Our programs are designed to be studied part time. You will study one unit at a time over a seven-week study period. With six study periods per year, you can complete all your units sooner and graduate faster than you would in traditional on-campus study models.

Can I take a break during my course?

Yes. Because we offer six study periods per year, you can choose to take a break and skip a study period if needed. However because not all units are offered every study period, if you miss a unit you may have to wait until it is offered again which means it may take longer for you to complete all your units. Most students choose to complete all their study periods consecutively so they can graduate sooner. Our Student Success Advisors are available to help you develop your study plan and accommodate any breaks a student may wish to take.

Can I attend a physical graduation ceremony when I complete my studies?

Yes, all our online students will be invited to attend an in-person graduation ceremony upon successfully completing their studies.

If I enrol in a master’s degree but do not complete all my units, can I still gain a qualification?

If there are approved "exit points" established within your course, you may be eligible to apply for an Alternative Exit with the lesser degree. For example, you may be eligible to exit from your Masters degree with the Graduate Certificate of the same discipline. Your Student Success Advisor can assist you with this.

How do I obtain an official copy of my academic transcript?

You will be sent your complimentary digital Statement of Academic Record (transcript) and a Course Completion letter, usually within 2-3 working days from the day results are released. You’ll receive an email about how to access your transcript on the My eQuals secure site the day after your results are released on SIMO. If you would like a copy at any other stage during your study, you can order a copy for a small cost. You can also access a list of your completed units and results at any time through the ECU Online student portal.

What is the academic support like for ECU Online students?

Our accelerated online courses are developed by industry experts and engaged academics. You can easily connect with learning facilitators and course coordinators through our easy-to-use online learning environment to gain feedback and ask academic questions. You can also reach out to a Learning Adviser who can help with things like assignment writing, study skills and more. You also have a dedicated Student Success Advisor for all non-academic questions.
